These are exciting times in the field, department and university. Our Department was founded 10 years ago and in that time the University has doubled in size to become a “Tier One” university! Faculty and students actively participate in prominent national research centers and work with a wide range of companies. This mentorship has developed students to become leaders in the University community as founders of professional student chapters, such as the Materials Research Society (MRS) and AVS (formerly the American Vacuum Society). All these achievements would not have happened without the support of our outstanding – and award winning – staff.
Alumni are our best ambassadors and their success is a testament to the quality of our Program. This year we have founded a new MSE Alumni Chapter, which is led by Marcela Mireles. I look forward to helping develop a strong network, and celebrating the many accomplishments of our alumni.
The collaborative spirit of MSE includes you, whether you are alumni, industry partners, donors, students, staff, faculty, colleagues or friends. We hope you support our Giving Day 2019 initiatives and thank you in advance.
To propel us forward and continue to recruit top-tier graduate students, we have established the first fellowship specifically designated to MSE students. The Erik Jonsson Fellowship in Materials Science and Engineering as an endowed fellowship for incoming doctoral students in materials science and engineering. Through this one-year fellowship, we will attract the world’s top scholars to UT Dallas and recognize their academic excellence.
