Who we are?
We are members of the UTD planning committee for the upcoming solar eclipses visible in the next academic year in the DFW area and on our campus!
What we're fundraising for?
Did you know that in the next April a total solar eclipse is coming to the DFW area and next October we will see a partial annular eclipse where the Moon will cover ~80% of the Sun? The next total or annular eclipse in the contiguous United States won’t happen until 2044!
We are working on a plan for own UTD campus, and also on broad community engagement in the DFW area. We are dedicated to getting the word out that people can safely observe solar eclipses with or without any special equipment. We are incredibly fortunate here at our location that we and our neighbors will experience the April 2024 total solar eclipse without traveling to a special location.
Your funds will help the committee and the Department of Science/Mathematics Education to plan, create, and provide resources and experiences for the UTD campus, K–12 schools, families, and members of the general public. The UTD Eclipse Planning Committee is seeking partners and funders to join us in this mission. Please join us!
Our impact
During the last Great American Eclipse in 2017, we had numerous reports from parents and teachers that K–12 students in our area weren’t allowed to experience the eclipse out of concerns over counterfeit eclipse glasses. Help us get the word out to our community on how anyone can safely observe the eclipse, help teachers and schools as they prepare, and create our own unforgettable UTD eclipse experiences!
