Who we are
The Department of Science/Mathematics Education strives to have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of STEM education in North Texas and beyond. Our approach is to recruit, prepare and support excellent STEM educators and to guide PK-16 and higher students toward success in formal and informal STEM educational experiences. We recruit and prepare developing new STEM teachers through the UTeach Dallas program. We continue to support their education through the Masters of Arts in Teaching in Math Education and Science Education. Plus, our professional development for alumni and other teachers throughout the Metroplex. We are so excited to be celebrating the 15th anniversary of UTeach Dallas this spring!
What we're fundraising for
There are many parts of our programs that need funds from other sources such as grants and fundraising. These include scholarships for our MAT students, Mentor stipends for our UTeach Dallas students, graduation celebration events for both the MAT program and the UTeach Dallas program, and new teachers supply kits to start off their classroom. We continue to support our Alumni with socials to trainings to classroom visits. In addition, we support the next generation with our physics camp for middle school girls.
Our impact
Through the SME MAT program and the UTeach Dallas program, our impact makes an incredible difference in the education of K-12 teachers and students across the Metroplex and beyond! This is evidenced by the many awards our alumni receive such as multiple Teacher of Year awards across multiple districts. Many alumni are also local district department heads, curriculum leaders, and principals.
