UTDesign EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) is the first service-learning design program at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. In EPICS, teams of multidisciplinary students learn human-centered design by creating hardware and software-based technical solutions for local and global nonprofits. Together our students, faculty and non-profit leaders work to ensure a lasting positive impact on the world.
Since its inception in 2016, EPICS has impacted more than 55 nonprofits, 1000 students, and thousands of people across Texas and other countries by designing and delivering over 70 projects. Course enrollment continues to break records each semester, and the program boasts high UTD alumni involvement and retention.
Goal #1: $5,000 for EPICS Abroad Scholarships
Contributions to this goal will help fund scholarships for students to travel abroad with EPICS in the Maymester of 2025. For EPICS Abroad, we will send teams of our UTD students abroad to identify pressing technical needs in rural communities. Teams will develop innovative solutions using the human-centered design process and will work to evaluate the market feasibility and scalability of these solutions.
Goal #2: $3,000 to upgrade Studio Computers and software
Our students’ needs evolve rapidly as technology advances. With your support we can provide a major upgrade to the computers available to all EPICS students, these new computers will allow our students to work more efficiently and access more advanced software to complete their projects in our new studio.
Thank you for helping ensure our students continue to have enriched learning opportunities while also uplifting the community around us.
