“In 2014, the Office of Undergraduate Education created the Undergraduate Success Scholars (USS) program to provide formal guided pathways for students. The program structure addresses the needs of students by building upon each academic year in a manner that facilitates the achievement of academic goals and personal development. The USS program team continuously assesses the skills and academic progress of participants to make informed decisions about referrals to campus resources. Each year, Undergraduate Success Scholars have the unique opportunity to:
- Create personalized success plans
- Receive mentorship
- Attend monthly workshops that address financial, academic, and personal needs
- Participate in advanced leadership experiences and opportunities such as conference attendance
- Participate in cultural experiences and contribute to the campus and external community through service
More than 150 incoming first-year students join the program each year. As of May 2023, 452 active scholars have earned their undergraduate degrees.
Key 2022-2023 highlights include:
- A majority of USS students majoring in business and STEM disciplines and those who are planning to continue their education, the USS program contributes to diversity in the workforce pipeline and within graduate and professional schools.
- 48% of participants entered UT Dallas from homes with household incomes below $59,999.
- 49% of new scholars in 2023 are first-generation college students.
- The six-year graduation rate of students who remained active in USS was 98% compared to 52% for students who became inactive.
- 93% of USS participants indicate they either ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’ that the program helps them identify actions to improve academic performance.
- 98% of USS participants either ‘agree’ or “strongly agree’ that USS contributed to their awareness of academic behaviors that lead to academic success.
- In Fall 2022, 100% of graduating USS seniors had received graduate school admission or secured employment.
Now, in its tenth year, your gift to support Undergraduate Success Scholar programming, no matter the size, contributes to student’s success at UT Dallas!”
