Our Mission
The Office of Student Volunteerism is committed to enriching the lives of UT Dallas students through engagement opportunities and utilizing them as resources to address the immediate and long-term needs of our local, global, and campus communities through service, reflection, education, and partnerships. Vision: To empower Comets to become local and global leaders who engage, understand, respond, and advocate for sustainable solutions to address community issues and needs.
Support Alternative Spring Break Scholarships
Each spring break the Office of Student Volunteerism (OSV) brings together more than 70 Comets in the name of service. Up to 11 student groups travel across the state of Texas and the country to serve those in need during Alternative Spring Break (ASB). By participating in this immersive service experience, Comets have the unique opportunity to foster meaningful bonds with their peers as they connect with folks from all over the country by addressing their needs in the most effective way. Since our first ASB trip in 1995, Comets have been engaging with dozens of community partners including the American Hiking Society, Arkansas Children's Hospital, Galveston Bay Foundation, Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, San Antonio Foodbank.
Ranging from $50-$750, all trips require fees for participation, which might limit the accessibility for some students, regardless of socioeconomic status, to participate. Your gift will be aggregated into three scholarships that will be awarded to potential ASB-ers, giving them a chance to grow alongside other students in service and community. Additionally, a gift of $25 ensures that a student volunteer is able to enjoy a nice meal in their local ASB community as a token of gratitude for their service. OSV has many ideas to expand the Alternative Breaks program including developing Alternative Weekends, Alternative Winter and Summer Breaks, and international service opportunities.
Your gift will contribute to a legacy of 30 years of experiential learning. By giving to the ASB scholarship fund, you will not only aid UTD students’ growth as service-minded leaders, but give communities and populations in need the access to proper resources that create ripple effects of change
