Center for Students in Recovery

The Center for Students in Recovery (CSR) at The University of Texas at Dallas provides a community where students can find safety and support in order to thrive and have the best college experience possible while living in recovery. Students in recovery have the typical stress of being and school and working, with the additional work of maintaining their recovery through meetings, therapy, and more. Learning to balance the demands of work, school, and recovery can be difficult but is more than worth the effort. The Center for Students in Recovery at The University of Texas at Dallas was created to provide a supportive environment to such students within the campus culture that supports students in recovery from substance and alcohol use disorders, process addictions, eating disorders, trauma, and more. The CSR hosts peer support groups, individual counseling, designated study time, national travel, and both on and off campus sober activities to provide students in recovery a space in which to thrive.

WE WANT YOUR HELP!!!

Why Donate to us?

Addiction has become a defining issue of this epoch. 90% of drug and alcohol issues start between the ages of 12 and 20 – which corresponds to high school and college. Intervention at this stage is crucial and can make or break the life of an individual.

With all the help that is available to such individuals, the UTD CSR Scholarship Fund is another step towards guiding students in the right direction. The scholarship affords students that have been engulfed by addiction another chance at getting back up on their feet.

By donating to the scholarship fund, you are helping deserving students become self-sufficient after having gone through the depravity of addiction. Our hope is that by enabling these students to pursue a better life, the scholarship fund will allow them to give back to society and the future alumni, thus setting up a virtuous cycle.

CSR Scholarship Fund

The CSR Scholarship Fund is designed for UT Dallas students in recovery from substance use, eating disorders, trauma or other addictions. The scholarship:

  • Financially assists students in recovery as they pursue their degree.
  • Encourages participation in the CSR.
  • Provides alumni and community members a chance to support students in recovery.

Scholarship criteria will include:

  • Full-time or part-time student enrollment status
  • Engagement in CRP activities, meetings and recovery programs
  • Financial need

Combined with other resources, the CSR Scholarship Fund offers college students challenged by addiction a chance to get back on their feet. Most students in recovery have higher-than-average GPAs compared with students not in recovery.  Students in recovery also have higher retention and graduation rates.  Importantly, students in recovery have been shown to have a lower return rate to using. By enabling Comets the opportunity to pursue a better life, the CSR Scholarship Fund also may allow its recipients the chance to give back to society.  With a donation to the CSR Scholarship Fund, you are helping deserving students become self-sufficient.

CSR Sober Travel Fund

We provide an environment for students in recovery wherein they can pursue a genuine college experience and recovery, without having to sacrifice one for another. This entails creating a safe space for our students and hosting fun sober travel where students can interact with others who are in recovery. Travel may include attendance of collegiate recovery conferences, sober camping trips, sober spring break activities, and more. The CSR Sober Activity Fund will be used to fund such travel and activities, which help students have a balanced experience of recovery and college fun.
