Computer Science

The mission of the Department of Computer Science is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students for productive careers in industry, academia, and government by providing an outstanding environment for teaching learning, and research in the theory and applications of computing. The Department places high priority on establishing and maintaining innovative research programs to enhance its education quality and make it an important regional, national and international resource center for discovering, integrating and applying new knowledge and technologies.

The Computer Science department continues to excel, with very high rankings in the area of AI and natural language processing, software engineering, cyber security and systems (csrankings.org).

This Giving Day, you can support the Computer Science Department by contributing to the following areas of programs and funds:

Computer Science General Fund

We strongly encourage innovation in research, in teaching and in service to the profession, the local community, and industry. Our faculty and students are constantly striving to excel and to advance computer science. Your generous contribution will allow us to propel the Computer Science Department to ever-greater heights.

CS K12 Outreach

We strongly believe that it is possible to introduce Computer programming to all school students in an enjoyable way and enable them to consider higher education & career in STEM fields. Your support of the CS K12 Outreach program funds operations of afterschool, weekend, and summer coding camps for elementary, middle and high school students. The program is designed to teach coding in a fun, hands-on manner.

For Giving Day 2022, we want to enable all school – aged students to attend our Summer Coding Camps, irrespective of the financial status of their families. This Comets Giving Day, you can introduce Computer Science to a child from a low-income family and brighten his/her career prospects!

Dr. Gopal Gupta Fellowship in Computer Science

To attract the world’s top scholars in computer science, the Jonsson School is establishing the Dr. Gopal Gupta Fellowship in Computer Science to support incoming master’s students. This one-year fellowship will support students who have not received a teaching or research assistantship. Make your gift to this fund in honor of long-term department head, Dr. Gopal Gupta.

CS Student Support Fund
Make a gift in memory of Dr. Bill Semper to support our CS students with academic enrichment opportunities, research support, travel expenses and other needs to support their education at UT Dallas.
Dr. Gopal Gupta Undergraduate Scholarship for Computer Science established by ACM 2020

As a tribute to their mentor, Dr. Gopal Gupta, ACM is establishing this scholarship endowment to support the Jonsson School’s top undergraduate CS students with a preference for students who are active in UTD organizations that promote computer science and software engineering.
