Founded in 1980, the Center for Translation Studies promotes the methods of the art and craft of translation in order to revitalize the understanding and interpretation of verbal, visual, and musical texts.
One of the primary missions of the Center for Translation Studies is to offer graduate and undergraduate seminars and workshops in translation studies, with an emphasis on literary translation. In these courses, students learn the art and craft of translation by practicing a variety of skills a translator uses to translate from English-to-English, between genres, and between languages. By applying the skills a translator uses, students develop the close reading and critical thinking skills that are beneficial to all fields of study.
