About Cyber Defense and Response Unit
The Cyber Defense and Response Unit’s main purpose is to provide hands-on technical training and workshops to UTD students. Our goal is to give students practical skills, train them on real-world analysis methodologies, and provide exposure to tools that are actually used in the industry. We focus primarily on the defensive side of cybersecurity, including the areas of Cyber Incident Response, Digital Forensics, Threat Hunting, Security Architecture, and more.

About Our Competitive Team
The CDRU competition team is where our students put their training into practice. Team members dedicate several hours each week to prepare for high-intensity, real-world style competitions that test both defensive and offensive cybersecurity skills under pressure.
We have just completed the 2026 SWCCDC regionals, the 2025 DoE Cyberforce, and at our very first competition, just months after CDRU was founded, we placed 5th out of more than 20 well-established southern universities in our regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC). This achievement highlights the drive, talent, and rapid growth of our team.

Why We Need Your Support
Your support will directly help us continue building this momentum by:
• Providing the infrastructure necessary for live training environments.
• Giving students opportunities to compete in regional and national competitions.
• Supporting training resources that give students an edge in the field.
By investing in CDRU, you’re investing in the next generation of skilled cyber defenders who will go on to protect organizations and communities worldwide.
Our Goals:
- Goal #1: $100 – Allows us to run our own cyber defense competition, engaging hundreds of UTD students
- Goal #2: $250 - Create unique team training workshops for members for an entire academic year
- Goal 3: $500 - Send 2 students to the National Cyber League: a national cybersecurity competition.
Each contribution will play a direct role in shaping the future of cybersecurity by empowering the next generation of defenders.
