Honoring Dr. Heather Hayenga

The Department of Bioengineering is honoring our dear colleague, Dr. Heather Hayenga.
Dr. Heather Hayenga was the Private Investigator of the Vascular Mechanobiology Lab and an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering. She graduated from the University of California at Davis (UCD) with her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2006. While at UCD, she worked as an undergraduate researcher under the mentorship of Dr. Scott Simon. In 2011, Dr. Hayenga graduated from Texas A&M University with her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Jay Humphrey. She then completed postdoctoral research with Dr. Helim Aranda-Espinoza in 2013 at the University of Maryland. Dr. Hayenga joined UT Dallas Bioengineering as an Assistant Professor in July of 2013 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2022.
Since joining UTD in 2013, she impacted countless lives through her research, mentorship, and friendship. Dr. Hayenga valued undergraduate research, which was a key experience in her academic career.
