Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) is the largest computer science student organization at The University of Texas at Dallas. We're a team of divisions with one goal – a greater, more collaborative engineering community at UTD. Through eight different divisions, we have had the incredible opportunity to teach, mentor and support some of the brightest students in our community. Donating to ACM will provide us with the resources to continue our mission and give unparalleled exposure to our engineering community.
Fundraising needs: For two years in a row now, the ACM at UT Dallas has had the honor of being one of five chapters worldwide to receive an ACM Student Chapter Award. This success is thanks to our high-quality programs and events, which continue to enable UT Dallas's students to excel.
Goal #1: $500 - ACM Projects, Research, and Education are some of ACM's oldest programs. Each semester they collectively offer personal mentorship and professional development opportunities to over 200 unique students, each sticking with the program throughout the entire semester. Our programs are the gold-standard for early-career development at UTD, and we're proud to carry on their tradition. To continue to offer these students high-quality, impactful mentorship, it's critical that they have access to compute resources, web service platforms, and more. Gifts enable us to maintain and expand these excellent opportunities for students and help define the next generation of computer scientists and software engineers at UTD.
Goal #2: $500 - The ACM Outreach team is responsible for introducing middle and high school students to the world of software development by providing on-site workshops and other events relating to the techniques and tools needed for success. Outreach also hosts the North Texas High School Hackathon, a first-of-its-kind, 24-hour event where high school students have the opportunity to get their hands dirty by building incredible software projects together and getting feedback from real industry leaders. Last year's hackathon supported more than 150 students, and we're eager to grow that pool. Donations allow us to continue to cultivate and refine interest in the profession among the youth of the DFW area, making sure that each year's incoming freshmen are better prepared than the last.
Goal #3: $500 - HackUTD is the largest 24-hour hackathon in the United States. Each year we host more than 1,200 students for two days of competitive software development, offering them direct access to employers and the opportunity to create something truly impressive, and then to share it with the world. We're proud to say that HackUTD, by our estimates, facilitates more job offers than any other student event at UTD, and we're thrilled to be able to continue to offer that opportunity to our campus community. Gifts will allow us to continue to improve the event, and cement it as a core part not just of UT Dallas, but the national computing community as a whole."
