Who we are
Originally established as UTD Motorsports, our organization was founded in 2014 by a small group of students aiming to compete in Formula SAE. In 2018, we rebranded as Dallas Formula Racing (DFR) and made our competition debut under our new name. Since then, we have designed and built a new formula-style race car every year. In 2024, our Internal Combustion (IC) team competed internationally and placed 29th overall out of 120+ teams from around the world. In 2025, we successfully brought our Electric Vehicle (EV) to competition. Now in 2026, we are taking a major step forward as we prepare to compete with both an IC and EV car in the same season for the first time. Today, DFR has grown into a student-led organization of 100+ active members, with both IC and EV competition teams, as well as over 20 specialized subteams supporting design, manufacturing, and operations.

What we do
Through Formula SAE, our team designs, manufactures, and competes with a formula-style race car each year. While rooted in motorsports engineering, DFR provides hands-on experience that goes far beyond the classroom. Members apply real-world engineering practices, develop technical and leadership skills, and collaborate across disciplines to bring a complex project to life. Our team is made up of students from diverse majors and backgrounds, all working toward a shared goal. Each completed car represents not just technical achievement, but the teamwork, discipline, and growth of every member involved.

Supporting Our Journey to Competition
As we prepare to compete in both IC and EV competitions this season, we are seeking support specifically to fund travel expenses for our teams. These competitions are critical to our growth. They provide the opportunity to test our vehicles, represent our university, and compete against top teams from around the world. Travel costs including transportation, lodging, and logistics are a significant barrier for many of our members. Your support will directly help our IC and EV teams make it to competition and showcase the results of a full year of hard work.

Why Your Support Matters
Last year, with the help of our supporters, we were able to send our EV team to competitions. This year, your contribution will ensure that both of our competition teams have the opportunity to attend and compete at the highest level. By supporting DFR, you are not just funding travel. You are investing in the development of future engineers, innovators, and leaders.
Thank you for your support!
We truly appreciate your support in helping us represent our team, our university, and our work on the international stage.
