At the Student Counseling Center (SCC), we meet students in some of their most vulnerable moments when they’re overwhelmed or unsure where to turn, even in the quiet, everyday moments. Some students are in crisis, while others are navigating loneliness, stress, or anxiety and simply need connection and support to keep going. Whether a student needs clinical care or a space to feel less alone, we believe everyone deserves access to resources that support their mental well-being. Our center serves them by providing counseling, psychiatry, workshops, outreach events, crisis intervention, and more. Through Comets Giving Day, we are raising funds to directly support students in two key ways:
While we do everything we can to support students, some need care beyond what we’re able to provide and too often, cost becomes the barrier. Your support helps create a lifeline for students seeking specialized or ongoing mental health treatment outside of the SCC (e.g. inpatient programs; intensive outpatient programs; ADHD or Autism assessments). Without insurance coverage, assessments run from $800 and up. Without insurance coverage, in-patient stays and IOPs can be around $900 a day. These scholarships can make the difference between a student going without help or finally getting the support they need.
Mental health is not single player. Connection is a protective factor and foundational to a person's overall well-being. Our Supportive Tabletop Alliance for Recreation and Socialization (S.T.A.R.S) offers a welcoming, consistent weekly, low-pressure space where students can build friendships and feel a sense of belonging through shared storytelling and play. Your donations help us provide supplies (e.g. dice sets for members; mats; miniatures), snacks, and meaningful community experiences (e.g. movie nights, community outings) that turn strangers into support systems.
