Military and Veteran Center

 Who we are

The Military and Veteran Center (MVC) is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides an additional layer of support and resources for military-affiliated students. The MVC has dedicated staff who are knowledgeable about the military-college-civilian transition. Military-affiliated students include veterans, current military service members (Active Duty, Guard, Reserve), military/veteran spouses and dependents, and ROTC cadets.

The MVC focuses on four areas:
• FOSTER COMMUNITY among students during their transition to campus life and with the UTD alumni veteran network.
• HONOR military service within the UTD community and recognize academic achievements.
• CONNECT students to the resources, services and programs they need to be successful at UTD and beyond.
• INFORM/EDUCATE the campus, community and prospective students.

What we're fundraising for

There are two ways to support the MVC this Comets Giving Day:

1. Military and Veteran Center – This fund helps support the mission of the Military and Veteran Center to offer quality programs, services, and activities. It also assists us with marketing our offerings on campus.
2. UTD Student Veterans Association – This student organization is sponsored by the MVC and funds will support their programs and activities, as well as expenses related to attending the Student Veterans of America (SVA) National Conference in Nashville, TN in January 2023.

Our impact

•  The MVC added the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) program in 2016-17. Since then, 83 peer advisors--who are student veterans--have been trained and assigned to 1,000+ incoming undergraduate student veterans.
•   Green Zone training provides military cultural competency training for staff and faculty. It began in 2015 with support from the Veteran Advisory Council. Since then, the MVC has trained over 450 UTD staff and faculty.
•  Since fall 2012, the MVC has organized 18 Veteran Cord Ceremonies to honor graduating veterans. During the pandemic, MVC staff mailed cords to graduates.
•  The MVC coordinated priority registration for ROTC cadets to accommodate their schedules as they drive to crosstown campuses for ROTC training.
•  The MVC’s Scholarship Selection Committee has selected 89 recipients for $113,5000 in veteran scholarships since 2014.
